The next team to be affected by this unusual summer coaching carousel may be the Cleveland Browns. The subsequent circumstances quickly came together to provide tight ends coach Tommy Rees the chance to become head coach:

Harvard College Health Care Jeff Hafley took the DC position with the Green Bay Packers.
Following his hiring as OC by The Ohio State University this summer, Bill O’Brien took the head coaching post at UCLA HC for Boston College. Chip Kelly agreed to take O’Brien’s position at Ohio State.
The most stunning connection of them was the one that led to the Rees to UCLA rumor. To put it plainly, a Big 10 offensive coordinator replaced a head coach who had departed the position.

There are many more specifics involved, but UCLA is now seeking a new head coach.

It’s already fascinating that an offensive coordinator for two major college schools chose a position coach job in the NFL with Rees, as it is with the rest of the crazy coaching carousel. Given his responsibilities at Alabama and Notre Dame, it makes more sense for him to be hired as the head coach of a large collegiate team.

Not long after joining the Crimson Tide, or in this instance, the Browns, they lost their new coach. After following Kallen DeBoer to Alabama the previous season, Ryan Grubb took the offensive coordinator position with the Washington Huskies. A few weeks later, he accepted the position with the Seattle Seahawks.
