Kevin Stefanski was one of four Cleveland Browns to receive a significant award at the NFL Honors presentation on Thursday.

For the second time in his career, the fourth-year head coach took home the NFL Coach of the Year Award. He accomplished this for the first time in his rookie season, and in the fourth, he defeated DeMeco Ryans in a tiebreaker.

Despite starting five different quarterbacks in 11 games, Stefanski was still able to earn the award. By the time the Cleveland Browns made it into the playoffs, they were down to their fifth and sixth choices at tackle in addition to losing their signal-callers and Nick Chubb.

Although Stefanski’s game-planning was excellent throughout the season, it would not have been successful if they lacked the depth they did. In this sense, general manager Andrew Berry merits recognition because of their excellent collaboration. And from what I’ve heard, they have a lot more years ahead of them to collaborate well.

The Browns are anticipated to extend contracts to Berry and Stefanski this summer, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The move would make sense, considering the fact that they took a faltering franchise and placed them on the correct road.

In advance of the 2020 campaign, Stefanski was brought in to take Freddie Kitchens’ spot. Two weeks after his employment was revealed, Berry was signed as the youngest general manager in the NFL at the time. They have since posted a 37-30 record and have qualified for the playoffs twice.

With the exception of temporary coach Gregg Williams, who went 5-3 in just eight games, no other coach has had a winning record in Cleveland since the team’s return in 1999. From 1999 to 2019, they only made it to the postseason once.

A great success would be making it to the playoffs twice and even winning back in 2020. The fact that they won 11 games with so many backups is also quite significant. More success should follow a return to health in 2024, and happily, it seems they will have the brain trust in charge of things together for the foreseeable future.
