The difference is that, in my opinion, Kyle Shanahan will play his best game on Sunday and the 49ers are a team that is created to defeat the Chiefs. Nobody has attempted to expose the Chiefs’ inability to stop the run thus far in the playoffs. By rushing Christian McCaffery all day, the 49ers will reduce the game and be able to overcome Mahomes’ wizardry.

The reason the 49ers win is because CMC is playing his best game of his life. The 49ers will rely a lot on him since he has repeatedly shown that he is among the top running backs in the game. For San Francisco to win, McCaffery has to have at least 25 touches, 125 yards, and two touchdowns. Give him the MVP if he does it.

Based on what we witnessed in the regular season, this matchup should likely favor San Francisco, which makes it a lot of fun to watch. However, the 49ers have shown fragile, and Kansas City has impressed me far more thus far in the playoffs. Given some of Mahomes’s previous postseason performances, I generally predict a lower scoring game.
Even though San Francisco has a strong defense, I believe Mahomes and company will eventually produce enough plays. Although I believe Brock Purdy will also play well, there’s something unique about the Chiefs’ ability to perform well under duress this playoffs. This team is a real dynasty, and I believe Sunday in Vegas will further cement its history.

I’m done picking against Mahomes. Kansas City is 6-1 with an extra week to prepare for a team, with the only loss coming to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55. Brady ain’t walking through that door for San Francisco. They’ve got Brock Purdy and in a game that I think could play out pretty closely into the final minutes I like Mahomes chances to deliver in crunch time like he’s done so many times before. The 49ers are also giving up over 159 yards rushing on the ground the playoffs, something Kansas City could really exploit with Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs defense is also really, really good. Mahomes, Kelce and Andy Reid earn a third ring in five years, cementing the Chiefs as a dynasty.

It feels reasonable to assume that if I’m choosing the Chiefs to win, Mahomes will start at quarterback because the MVP has only not been a quarterback five times in the previous 17 Super Bowls. Although Pacheco is also an intriguing choice, the last time a running back won the award was in Super Bowl XXXII in 1998. The last person to do it is Terrell Davis.
