There are just under two days left before the clock strikes three o’clock ET on February 8th, signifying that clubs will be unable to conduct business with one another for the remainder of the season. The trade deadline approaches. Before the deadline, LeBron James had already sent his yearly cryptic tweet. The next few days are going to be exciting for Lakers fans.
Los Angeles (27–25) is currently one game behind the eighth seed in the Western Conference standings, ranked ninth. In the middle of their difficulties this season, the Lakers are anticipated to make a move. It would be intriguing to see what steps Rob Pelinka takes to improve this roster, but the list of names connected to the Lakers is too long to discuss here.
The fact that Jarred Vanderbilt might miss the rest of the season due to a foot ailment doesn’t help either. Los Angeles’ predicament is undoubtedly made more difficult by his injury, which may also affect how the front management handles this trade deadline.
In any case, Pelinka should concentrate all of his efforts on making the most of James’ remaining playing days. Trade with the Atlanta Hawks for Dejounte Murray
The Lakers and Dejounte Murray were essentially linked at this year’s trade deadline. The Atlanta Hawks are prepared to part ways with Murray and Trae Young after actively courting Murray for some time.
Regarding a possible trade involving the All-Star guard, they have apparently communicated with the Lakers. Nevertheless, neither the Hawks nor the Lakers have been able to settle on a price yet.
Murray’s ability to play both sides of the court would ideally address many of the Lakers’ present problems. The 39-year-old James is not the only playmaker the Lakers need, and the Hawks guard can create shots for himself and his teammates. Murray’s season averages are 21.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 46.6/37.0/83.4 shooting percentages.
Murray’s defense has become less effective in the past few years. However, that’s more a product of Atlanta’s general poor team defense. Murray was named to the All-Defensive First Team during the 2017–18 season while playing for the San Antonio Spurs. He remains an obnoxious and adhesive point-of-attack defender that the Lakers could utilize to reinforce some of their defensive deficiencies.
But according to reports, Atlanta is not interested in trading for Murray in order to acquire D’Angelo Russell. The Laker who has been discussed the most in the rumor mill is Russell. Los Angeles is working hard, though, to keep Austin Reaves out of any possible trade. Rob Pelinka will undoubtedly keep trying until the clock strikes 3 PM ET on Thursday to finalize a deal that would place the Hawks guard in Los Angeles, as there are still a lot of things that could happen before the deadline.
Trade with the Chicago Bulls
Similar to the Hawks, the Bulls have the opportunity to sell at the trade deadline because the championship window for their present core is almost over. But according to reports, Zach LaVine’s season-ending injury has altered their intentions before the deadline. According to reports, the Bulls no longer intend to blow it up, thus Alex Caruso, Nikola Vucevic, and DeMar DeRozan will remain in Chicago through Thursday afternoon. Similarly, the Bulls are still hoping to challenge for the postseason after their recent run of success. All the same, a lot could happen in the next twenty-four hours or so.
LaVine was once a target for the Lakers as well, but he is definitely no longer in the picture. Let’s welcome back DeMar DeRozan, another Bulls All-Star. The Bulls should put their playoff hopes on hold this season and concentrate on attempting to close a deal for the six-time All-Star. This summer, he’ll be an unrestricted free agency and may decide to depart Chicago to play for a contender.
Similar to Murray, DeRozan would provide offensive depth to Los Angeles in addition to James. DeRozan has developed into a versatile offensive player who can produce for himself and his teams over the course of his career.
