Jones is among the league’s best defensive tackles. On February 11, he is scheduled to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Over the past two seasons, he has amassed 26 sacks and been selected twice for the first team All-Pro.
In response to a reader’s inquiry regarding Jones’ possible awareness by the team during free agency, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com provided an update.
Cabot stated on February 4 that while Jones, the Chiefs’ great defensive tackle, would undoubtedly be a blockbuster addition, “I doubt the Browns would want to pay his projected $28 million a year salary, as estimated by Spotrac.” They might not want to spend a fortune on Jones, in my opinion. However, as I already stated, I believe the Browns need another elite rusher, and Jones would be a perfect fit.
According to Cabot, the Browns intend to strengthen their defensive lineman rotation by exploring “less expensive options.” While Jordan Elliott, who has started 31 games in the last two seasons, and veterans Maurice Hurst and Shelby Harris are free agents, Cleveland has secured the services of Dalvin Tomlinson.
Jones, for his part, isn’t considering his future plans just yet. That’s for after the big game, he says.
