After a thrilling 4-2 victory over Chelsea, Wolves has moved into the top half of the Premier League for the first time this year.

Wanderers destroyed the Blues at Stamford Bridge, putting the agony of their midweek loss to Manchester United in injury time behind them. It was the team’s first-ever away victory at the Blues.

For the visitors, Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri worked well together to set up an own goal for Axel Disasi, who scored a hat-trick for Matheus Cunha.

Wolves earned the victory and may now consider playing in Europe. Chelsea took the lead through Cole Palmer and added a late goal through Thiago Silva.

While Cunha will undoubtedly make headlines, another player in Old Gold today really stood out.

It was a brilliant move by Gary O’Neil to start Joao Gomes for Wolves against Chelsea.

Wolves totally outclassed Chelsea today.

Although the latter third was really good, Wolves were faster, stronger, and more effective in the press.

Wolves won the midfield fight today despite Chelsea having two players worth more than £100 million, and Joao Gomes, who returned to the team in place of Tommy Doyle, had an outstanding performance.

O’Neil made an intriguing decision by starting Gomes and moving Doyle to the bench.

Doyle has maybe been Wolves’ finest player lately, even though he didn’t play at his best against United.

Going with Gomes was a risky move, but the Brazilian proved his manager was right to back him up and played a beautifully resilient game against the Blues. He and Neto were responsible for Wolves’ swift equaliser following Palmer’s Chelsea goal.

Only Matheus Cunha engaged more duels in the encounter than him, according to Sofascore, who was just outstanding in the engine room.

In addition, Gomes made the most tackles of any player on the field with six. He was on the ball today, completing 18 of 22 throws (82%), and he also made a handful of interceptions.
