To make sure there is no trouble, the force emphasised that it was preparing for a “smooth” event.
When Wolves visit The Hawthorns on Sunday at 11.45 a.m., fans are anticipated to be in good numbers for the FA Cup fourth round match. According to the force, they are coordinating with nearby venues and clubs to ensure that there is “as little disruption as possible”.
“We want to ensure everyone enjoys the match,” a West Midlands Police spokeswoman stated, “because both teams’ supporters will be in attendance at the local derby between WBA and Wolves.”
“We are working to ensure that this happens smoothly and with as little disruption as possible to local residents, pubs, and bars. There will be a large number of supporters gathering and travelling from various locations across the Black Country and further afield to The Hawthorns.”
“We will have a substantial policing presence and are working with both clubs to manage this.”
Residents responded well to the increased police presence, but many still fear that things could go out of control.
Mark Parsons, a West Bromwich Albion supporter, stated: “I believe Albion will prevail this time.” However, I believe there could be some issues if they do.
“It’s a good thing that there are more police around, but they have to be alert during the night. There will be a lot of cleanup to do if it goes wrong.”
In order to minimise disturbance to the surrounding neighbourhood, the game’s schedule was shifted to an earlier time, according to the force.
