Dwight McNeil is doubtful for Everton’s match against Aston Villa, according to Sean Dyche, but he feels his winger has been “extremely fortunate” to escape a catastrophic injury. In the last moments of his team’s 0-0 FA Cup match with Crystal Palace, McNeil was taken down while defending a corner. It seemed as though the winger’s ankle got hooked beneath a teammate’s leg.
The former Burnley man seemed instantly in distress, covering his face with his shirt before being treated by Everton team doctors behind the goal and was finally carried out on a stretcher.
After the match, Everton manager Dyche expressed his hope that the injury was not serious and expressed optimism that the 24-year-old would be available for the replay against Palace, even though it might be enough to keep him out of Sunday’s match against Unai Emery’s team.
“[The injury] has settled really quickly, and he’s been extremely fortunate,” he stated. They can sometimes trick you with their injuries.
