Before his fight with Otto Wallin on Saturday night, Anthony Joshua gave an odd interview in which he spoke bluntly and seemed to be getting into “fight mode” before their match in Saudi Arabia.
As part of the historic Day of Reckoning card, which also features Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois vs. Jarrell Miller on the same night, the British heavyweight is slated to square off against the Swedish fighter in Riyadh.
Joshua is aware that winning will probably lead to a major matchup with Wilder the following year, but first he needs to eliminate Wallin, who has only ever lost to Tyson Fury on points.
Although AJ has appeared to be very focused in the Middle East, he came across as a touch icy when engaging with the media since he was reluctant to reveal too much.
After Joshua’s third fight in Saudi Arabia, Queensbury PR man Dev Sahni, with whom Joshua had a tense press conference last month, asked him at the beginning of the interview whether Saudi Arabia was fast becoming the home of boxing.
After losing to Usyk in a split decision in August 2022, Joshua tossed his world title rings out of the ring. He then made an incredible speech following the fight in Jeddah. And it seemed he will not be here again. Glad he is back.
